Reading Recovery

Reading Recovery is a trademarked school-based literacy programme for children aged five or six with the most complex problems in reading and writing. It involves one-to-one lessons with a specially trained teacher 30 minutes a day for 15-20 weeks. The aim is to bring their reading up to the average level for their age, to boost their confidence and enjoyment of learning.

Reading Recovery is different for every child, starting from what the child knows and what he/she needs to learn next.

The focus of each lesson is to comprehend messages in reading and construct messages in writing, learning how to use letter and word detail fluently without losing focus on meaning and comprehension.

Research shows that Reading Recovery achieves good and long lasting results. 17 out of 20 children who completed Reading Recovery caught up with their classmates within 18 weeks of daily teaching and continue to make progress.
